Movin' On Up

I've often complained that I have to travel in order to leave my work behind. As it is, my studio is in my home, and although that's quite convenient, it also means that I'm always at work. It took a new person visiting my studio to point out that the limited space was holding me back artistically.

So with a sense of purpose (and fear) I approached a business owner friend of mine to inquire about subletting space in his building. We are close to an agreement, and as the moment of no-going-back approaches, anxiety and exhilaration are jockeying for space in my heart.

I'm working today, and noticing anew how little workspace I really have. As my projects get larger and more complex, I've been using the back porch and even the driveway. I just don't have room. If I want to change mediums, I have to clean up the whole space so the materials of one technique don't contaminate the next. The new space is large enough to allow each specific process it's own area. Plus tons of wall space for painting. There's a little rehabbing to do. I'll need a new slant wall built in front of the existing concrete block. And I'll need water run so I can have a wet room. Not much else, though.

Wonder what it will be like to actually live in my house?

Watch out you might never leave the new space and just stay there and work all day and all nite.

At first I though: Oh NO! But then I realized I'm not surprised at all... you'll make good use of both the new studio and your reclaimed house! And continue to be fun to watch... ;-) I won't say how envious I am of your energy level...

Oh wow....sounds so exciting, Robin. Please keep us in the loop on how it will be going. I'm just hoping my own work outside the actual house wil be good for me as well...although only into the next building over. Guess we'll see, huh!

Wow, that's great! I love being attached to the house, but I've already crammed every available space in my studio in only the 2 years since we built it.

Wishing you the best of luck, and have fun on your trip too!
