Gorge - ous

Ready for another road trip, Raya and I took off for the day, driving randomly through the countryside, marveling at each green pasture and dark brooding mountainside. The road we chose this day took us through a series of white-knuckle hairpin turns, then led us through a massive gorge. It was most majestic, as white rock climbed into the sky, and a tiny river carved it's way far far below. The road was one lane, and took a lot of negotiating, and we both breathed a sigh of relief when we came out the other side. However, it was so exhilarating that we switched drivers and drove back the other way, to appreciate it from both viewpoints. Even that wasn't enough, and we parked the car to get a closer look.

What we couldn't see from the car was the abbey that was carved into the rock many feet below the road. In the picture above it's barely visible right in the center, and directly below that about halfway down, you can see the river. Magnificent!
