Making Things Up

As I started my new painting project, I realized that I have been given 3" x 5" photographs as reference to paint something 7' x 10' which means mostly I will have to make it up. That's what art is anyway, I guess. We're never tied to painting what is in front of us. Usually it's a case of editing, but this time, it's addition. The designer wants something realistic, but not photographic. Yikes.

I've thought of hiring out part of this job, and might put an ad on Craigslist. It would be great to hand off the whole thing to someone, have them transfer the image to the canvas, then bring it back to me to paint. Actually, the more I think about it, the better it sounds. Surely an art student at one of the local colleges could use a little extra money. If I can pull that off I will be able to complete the big project and still meet the other deadlines I have during that same six week time period. We'll see.

It's already bothering me to have my studio idle, and it's only been one day!
