In the Moment

At the request of Kesha Bruce I am posting one of the photos from Saturday's meditative shoot. This was one of 20 that I shot of a rapidly decomposing pile of corrugated cardboard. Lots of abstract patterns and texture. I loved it! I was working with a macro lens and a very shallow depth of field. Why this photo fits the theme? If I went back to this location today everything would be different. The strong winds today may have sent some of this pile down the alley, the light is different, and even I am different and may see this in a new way. Since the point of the shoot was to be in the moment and document that moment, I think this particular series (more than the requisite wildflower shots) are particularly appropriate.

But that's not all I've been doing. I finished two 48 x 48 abstract paintings in the Red Circles series. They are commissions for a local hotel project.

Robin, I sure understand this concept! Although I haven't posted them to my walking blog, I still look for one particular photo-op which defines each of my 'not-so-daily' walks. Most of the time, I am covering the sidewalks in my neighborhood, so it is surprising which things stand out today so differently than yesterday. It has been a good visual exercise -- I am definitely in the moment. Nice to know I am getting something right!

Annette - I know you know the "be here now" concept - glad to hear you practice it every day. Love the idea of you and your iphone taking to the streets of Augusta.

Joanie, the Red Circles series has been around for awhile. I did a 32 foot long painting in this series a number of years ago. It was in 4 eight foot sections, and I set up folding tables in my front yard (and my neighbors!) in order to match up the pattern and keep the "flow" from one canvas to the next. That was fun!

love this photo and suspect we'll be seeing something awesome come from the inspiration if not directly from the photo itself. can't wait!

don't wait too long! if I'm truly in the moment, the moment has passed and I'm on to the next thing!
