Starting Early - Digitizing
Once I woke up and started thinking about my schedule for the day there was no more sleeping. So I am at the keyboard at 5:30 am, halfway through my first cup of coffee, have already photographed the grid painting you see above. That's my starting point today. Maybe I can finish!
After a conversation with a client yesterday I am thinking more about printing my own giclees. It's all about money. Here's how it was presented to me: My client has a budget for all the artwork in a project. If it's $10,000 and they are paying me $3,000 for orignals in one part, the rest gets divvied up for the whole rest of the space. Usually that means they use prints or giclees in some parts. There are several companies that they buy from. They are cheap (relatively) and look good. Technology has come a long way in a short time. I have the capability to print my own giclees. I have done it successfully a number of times. My client wants me to build up an inventory of printable images. That way she will still be able to use my work when the budget does not allow originals. It will cost about $125 for each image to be scanned and digitized. Although I would only have to pay that once, I would want to make sure that it's worth it to me financially. Like anything else, the first one is the most expensive. So I am thinking about that. Fast, because there's already a project on the books she wants to use me for.
