The Logistics of Large Paintings

I recently had a meeting to discuss a large painting commission. Really large. 11' x 5' stretched canvas. Although logistics aren't usually my concern, I asked the art consultant how they would physically get the painting onto the ninth floor of the office building where it will be installed in a hallway. Blank stare. They called the management of the building who said the painting won't fit in the freight elevator. That leaves the stairs, right? Or removing an exterior window and using a crane. Anyway, I was surprised, because I would have thought those things would be addressed before the painting was commissioned.

Latest update - the painting WILL fit through the stairwells, it's a go for me (sigh of relief), and the installer gets to worry about everything else.

So glad it's a go, Robin!! I still think stretching it on site would have been a good solution. But all is well, as long as you don't have to help haul it up those 9 flights of stairs!
